Free Ballroom Dance Lesson

Happy 150th birthday, Canada!

In celebration of our nation’s important milestone, we at JC Dance Co are giving you a free ballroom dance lesson, eh!   Canadians are known for our hockey and our maple syrup, but wouldn’t it be great to be known for having a great time on the dance floor too?!  Teacher Joel (Canadian Silver medalist and World Pro-Am Champion, wow eh?), is an absolute pro at getting everyone to learn how to dance and have great time doing it.  A smile on your face is his #1 priority!

Bring in one of our Free Ballroom Dance Lesson pens, and receive free admission to one of our Beginner or Intermediate ballroom group classes.  Singles and couples are equally invited to come join in the fun.  (Limit one per person, new students only.)

Q: When are these super fun dance lessons?

A: Beginner Group Class runs every Wednesday evening @ 7:30 – 8:30pm.  Intermediate Group Class runs every Thursday evening @ 7:30 – 8:30pm.  Both are taught by Teacher Joel.

Q: Which class should I take?

A: Beginner class is just what is sounds like, for total beginners who have never ever danced before.  Intermediate class is for those who have already taken some dance classes in the past and are interested in learning more figures in the Bronze and Silver levels, with added focus on technique.

Q: When can I start taking these lessons?

A: Our group classes run in a cyclical format, therefore there is no specific start or end to the cycle, (the cycle keeps going and going).  Most dances are taught over 2 weeks, then we move onto a new dance.  For your enjoyment, we ask you start on the 1st week of a dance and not the 2nd week of a dance.  Here is a list of start dates and dances over the summer months, but keep in mind we keep going non-stop all the way through to Christmas break!

  • Beginner Tango, September 20
  • Intermediate Tango, September 28
  • Beginner Social Foxtrot, October 4
  • Intermediate Rumba, October 19
  • Beginner Jive, October 25
  • Intermediate Quickstep, November 2
  • Beginner Waltz, November 8
  • Intermediate Jive, November 16
  • Beginner Cha Cha, November 22
  • … and the classes continue through to the Christmas Holiday Break and then in the New Year!

Q: Where are the lessons?

A: Lessons are at the super central, and fully air conditioned Broadway Ballroom, located at 1050 West Broadway in Vancouver.  It is the only full sized ballroom dance studio in Vancouver!  The Broadway Ballroom has free underground parking for students, plus a tonne of street parking right outside the front door.  Feel free to walk, bike or transit to the ballroom since it’s so centrally located.

Q: Do I need to prepare anything before coming to my first class?

A: No preparation is required!  If you really must do something as prep for your first ballroom dance class, Teacher Joel recommends practicing your smile a lot.  Smile at your family.  Smile at your friends.  Smile at your co-workers.  Do this and you’ll for sure be ready to have a great time at your free ballroom dance class!
